the recent threads by pistoff got me thinking that some youtube vids of the hard line positions being taught from the platform would be pretty cool.
if you're already going, why not get us some documentation .
of course it might already be up on http://www.jwproclaimers.org/ for all i know.. it's a shame you don't know what conventions the gb is going to show up at because it really would be good to get those guys on tape no matter what..

I think you're generalizing beyond practical comparison.
It makes me think on just a few examples where Jehovah's Witnesses are by no means false to Christianity's heritage in attempting to manipulate and control various aspects of people's lives in the name of God.
Jehovah's Witnesses are a modern day corporate organization which gained most of their influence through use of print technology. The circumstances and structure of the modern Witnesses and early Christiantiy are so far removed from each other hisorically that any comparisons in regards to "controlling" and "manipulating" are rather pointless imo. These are very different experiences. This is not to say that early Christiainty didn't have it's share of things that by todays standards would never be accepted in society. It sure did. But to take these negative aspects out of their historical context and say "it's just like the Watchtower!" is a bit over the top imo.

I too felt that it probably was to be taken literally, with the idea of promoting a radical itinerant Christian lifestyle. All with dramatic apocolyptic assumptions scattered throughout.

A verse cited by JWs from time to time, sometimes used to support the idea that family divisions because of "the truth" are justified.
I don't know much about the verse other than it's a possible quote from Micah 7:6. I'm wondering what some of our "JWD scholars" fell about it.

Just curious if you could provide the info as to which part on the program it was that these things were mentioned. Would be a great heads up for those on this board to possibly make a note to record that part (if they are going).

For what it's worth:
This new book about Acts seems to be very similar to the book released not to long ago about the 12 prophets. It probably reads like a collection of Watchtower articles based on the Bible book in question. Again, it's just more regurgitated material. The Daniel and Isaiah books are the last two things I think they have published that could possibly be considered 'unique'.
A good question to ask is "what do these new publications have that other books already published by the Watchtower didn't have?"
ok, so now, i think the initial shock of all this is wearing off and anger is replacing it.... today makes 5 weeks... 5 weeks since i had a study with my "study conductor" and 5 weeks since i have not heard the sound of his voice... this person was someone who espoused integrity, love, brotherhood, justice, compassion, and on and on... i was told that central to the jw religion was the ministry.... the ministry comes first, everything else second... having bible studies was integral... and since we lost our jobs, it appears no longer convenient to have a study, so i am dropped like a lead balloon.... i am mad for two reasons: for 4 years, this guy to be my friend... he worked directly for me and it's clear now that he did this to his own advantage.
why would you not be friends with the boss... i favored him in most situations... a very bad thing to do in business but apparently i was too naive to see it... he saw the opening and he took advantage of it... shoot man, how stupid could i be.... second reason is the study... we would so it at the beginning of the day at work or at the end when no one was around.
again an easy an convenienet way to get your field service requirement completed... now that the convenience is gone and i maybe haven't progressed as far as they would like, i am history... what is up with that.... some advice please... there is no way to get to this person... he no longer has a phone and he will not answer his email... i need to close this off somehow... should i send a letter or something to get this off my chest and let him know how under-handed i think this has been... maybe writing it down and sending it off would alleviate some of this anger?
I would only add that on his end he may be feeling that he spent two years of friendship and never got a convet
Consider yourself grateful that you haven't been sucked into this religion. Let this be a lesson that teaches you better ways to look at life and move on. People have lost much more because of the Watchtower (need I say "blood policy!")
